Try the northern end of the Fernleigh Track as a small out-and-back. The former railway gives the ride a sense of journey, while a firm turnaround limit keeps enough energy for the way home.
RideFinder’s suggested cap is 3 km outward from the Adamstown track entrance, then the same way back: up to 6 km total. This is a self-measured portion of the 15 km Adamstown–Belmont trail, not an official named 6 km route. Time is a planning allowance, not a measured ride time.

- 0 km / Adamstown entrance
Start at the northern entrance
Join the Fernleigh Track at Dibbs Street / Brisbane Water Road and follow the signed trail towards Belmont. Reset your distance counter at the path entrance.
- By 3 km / Your turnaround
Let the railway set the pace
Stay on the main shared track. Stop before any road crossing and regroup; turn around by 3 km, or earlier if a rider needs it.
- Up to 6 km / Back at Adamstown
Retrace your ride
Return along the same path to Adamstown. Keep a little reserve for changes in gradient and take the final approach to the entrance slowly.
MAKE IT A SMALLER OUTING
Keep it to two kilometres
Turn after 1 km for a roughly 2 km return. The distance limit is flexible; reaching a particular landmark is optional.
Places to pause.
Before setting off
Northern trail entrance
Choose a meeting point and explain that everyone returns along the same path. Take a photo of local trail information if available.

A pause beside the trail
Choose a wide place fully clear of moving riders. A snack from your bag makes this stop independent of business hours.

This is also a commuter route. Keep left, avoid stopping in narrow sections and use lights if continuing through the tunnel. A road crossing or a busy pinch point is a good reason to walk.
These are bicycle outings. Scooter access and e-bike requirements need a separate check for the device and location.
A couple of useful answers.
Does this reach Belmont?
No. Belmont is at the other end of the 15 km trail. This shorter plan turns back after at most 3 km outward.
Is it a good first lesson?
Choose a contained learner track for first starts and stops. Fernleigh users travel at different speeds, so riders need enough control to share the path.
