Bicycle outing · Sources checked 15 September 2026
A good fit for
Confident shared-path riders who are happy to slow down and walk through crowds. Early quiet periods are more comfortable than busy dining times.
Arrival & parking
Start at the Riverview Court Riverwalk entrance. Check nearby signed parking before travelling; this guide does not promise a dedicated or free start car park.
Toilets & water
The City Botanic Gardens lists toilets, drinking fountains and picnic facilities. Start with full water bottles rather than relying on a facility at the New Farm entrance.

Give the riverfront its own morning. This outing links New Farm’s over-water Riverwalk with the city gardens, with room for a slow roll through the waterfront precincts and a picnic before heading back.

Brisbane Council describes New Farm Riverwalk to the City Botanic Gardens as a 3 km journey. Allow about 6 km returning the same way, plus garden or café detours. Time is a planning allowance, not a measured ride time.

Follow the ride.

  1. Start / Riverview Court

    Join at Riverview Court

Use the Riverwalk access from New Farm and follow the cycling side towards Howard Smith Wharves. Walk any busy approach where that makes joining easier.

  2. About 3 km / City Botanic Gardens

    Continue towards the gardens

Follow the riverside connection via the city waterfront and Eagle Street Riverwalk to the City Botanic Gardens. Check signs for temporary works and pedestrian priority areas.

  3. About 6 km / Back in New Farm

    Pause, then retrace

Park the bikes for a garden break. Return on the same riverfront route to Riverview Court, allowing extra time if the waterfront has become busier.

MAKE IT A SMALLER OUTING

Turn at Howard Smith Wharves

Make the over-water Riverwalk the main event and return from the wharves. This avoids committing to the longer city waterfront section.

Places to pause.

On the way

Howard Smith Wharves

A possible food pause, or a convenient early turnaround. Walk through crowded areas and secure bikes before entering a venue.

Along the way

Riverfront dining areas and event crowds can make this a stop-start outing. Give way to pedestrians and follow local dismount signs. Do not assume every garden path is a cycle route.

These are bicycle outings. Scooter access and e-bike requirements need a separate check for the device and location.

A couple of useful answers.

Does this include New Farm Park?

No. The suggested start is Riverview Court at the Riverwalk entrance. Reaching New Farm Park is a separate extension with extra distance and navigation.

Can we ride through all the gardens?

Use the permitted City Botanic Gardens Riverwalk and Bunya Walk connection. For other garden areas, park the bike and explore on foot.

IF YOU’RE CHOOSING A BIKE
