This short eastern-shore outing has a satisfying destination: leave the bay, follow the foreshore around the bluff and take a break at Bellerive Beach before retracing your way.
Greater Hobart Trails lists the Kangaroo Bay–Bellerive Beach section as 2 km. Riding it out and back is about 4 km, plus any connection from parking. Time is a planning allowance, not a measured ride time.

- 0 km / Kangaroo Bay
Set out from Kangaroo Bay
Join the Clarence Foreshore Trail from Kangaroo Bay Drive and follow the Bellerive Beach direction. Keep together where waterfront activity meets the path.
- About 2 km / Bellerive Beach Park
Go around the bluff
Use the shared trail and take the gradients at a comfortable pace. At the yacht-club slipway’s retractable bridge, stop and wait if access is interrupted.
- About 4 km / Back at the bay
Pause at the beach, then return
Use Bellerive Beach Park as the turnaround. Retrace the same route, leaving enough energy for the bluff on the way back.
MAKE IT A SMALLER OUTING
Make it a bay-side introduction
Stay near Kangaroo Bay and turn back before committing to the bluff. A short return is better for riders still practising braking on slopes.

Take a moment to watch the boats before riding. Stand clear of waterfront access and keep younger children close to the water.

Put the bikes aside for a picnic or play break. Make returning part of the agreement before everyone settles into a longer beach visit.
Greater Hobart Trails: local trail finderAlong the way
The bluff section is not uniformly flat or accessible. Walk steeper sections if needed and never bypass a closed retractable bridge through a working slipway.
These are bicycle outings. Scooter access and e-bike requirements need a separate check for the device and location.
A couple of useful answers.
Is it completely flat?
No. The bluff brings gradients, and the source specifically notes that section is not DDA compliant. Choose the bay-side shorter option if that is a concern.
What if the slipway bridge is open?
Stop and follow local directions. Wait for the authorised crossing to reopen or turn back; do not improvise a way through the working area.
