Use the Butterflies, Birds and Bridges Trail for a gentle nature outing with a proper picnic finish. Four kilometres gives the day a shape without turning it into a distance challenge.
The published Butterflies, Birds and Bridges Trail is a 4 km dual-use loop. Follow that named circuit from Kent Street Weir; other Canning River trails are separate outings. Time is a planning allowance, not a measured ride time.

- Start / Kent Street Weir
Find the named trail
At Kent Street Weir, read the trail information and identify the Butterflies, Birds and Bridges circuit. Keep the trail map handy at junctions.
- On the circuit / Birds, woodland and bridges
Take the bridges slowly
Follow the signed loop through the riverside habitats. Dismount where space is tight or signs ask you to, and let pedestrians cross without squeezing past.
- About 4 km / Picnic at the weir
Finish at the weir precinct
Return to your starting place and put the bikes aside for a picnic. Add another activity only if everyone still has energy.
MAKE IT A SMALLER OUTING
Choose an early return
Try a short section of the signed trail and come back the same way. Recheck junctions on the return rather than inventing a shortcut.
Places to pause.
Along the signed circuit
A birdwatching pause
Stop in a broad space off the riding line and see what you can spot from the path. Keep food for your group rather than feeding wildlife.

Kent Street Weir picnic
Make lunch the reward for the loop. The weir precinct has picnic facilities; keep children close around the river and pedestrian crossing.

Bridges and narrow sections need patience. Keep to the formed dual-use trail and avoid side tracks into sensitive vegetation.
These are bicycle outings. Scooter access and e-bike requirements need a separate check for the device and location.
A couple of useful answers.
Which of the park’s trails do we follow?
Choose Butterflies, Birds and Bridges, the published 4 km circuit. The Banksia Hill and Woodloes trails have different lengths.
Can beginners ride it?
It suits riders who can control a bike around walkers and narrow crossings. For first balance practice, choose a contained learner track instead.
