You do not need a full river circuit to enjoy the Perth skyline. Start at the Coode Street end of the foreshore, choose a short ride along the water and come back for a park pause. The distance is yours to keep small.
This is a RideFinder distance cap, not a measured landmark-to-landmark route. Ride no more than 2 km from the start on permitted foreshore paths, then return the same way for up to 4 km. Time is a planning allowance, not a measured ride time.

- Start / Coode Street foreshore
Meet at the Coode Street foreshore
Join the designated cycling or shared path, keeping clear of the jetty approach and pedestrians. Choose the signed foreshore direction towards Mends Street.
- By 2 km / Your chosen turnaround
Choose your own turnaround
Keep track of the distance from the start. Turn at 2 km or earlier, without adding a bridge crossing or leaving the foreshore to reach a particular landmark.
- Up to 4 km / Back at Coode Street
Return for a park break
Follow the same path back to Coode Street. Finish the riding before switching to a playground, picnic or café visit.
MAKE IT A SMALLER OUTING
Make it a ten-minute ride out
Set a short time limit, turn while everyone is enjoying it, and use the rest of the visit for the park. You do not need to reach Mends Street.
Places to pause.
At the start and finish
Coode Street parkland
The playground and open lawn make a useful finish to a small ride. Keep the bike parked while children switch to playground activities.
City of South Perth: foreshore places and updatesBefore your turnaround
A foreshore pause
Stop on an appropriate rest area off the path to look across to the city. A packed snack avoids making the ride depend on café hours.
Council: foreshore facilitiesAlong the way
Look for path separation and use the cycling side where marked. Children, dogs, joggers and people crossing between the lawn and river need plenty of room.
These are bicycle outings. Scooter access and e-bike requirements need a separate check for the device and location.
A couple of useful answers.
Is this the Swan River loop?
No. This is a short return from Coode Street, with no bridge crossing required. The full river circuit needs a separate route plan.
Is Mends Street the two-kilometre marker?
No. The distance cap is measured by your own trip distance, not a claimed distance to a landmark. Turn earlier whenever it suits your group.
